Cruising the British Isles
If you want to cruise the UK and British Isles, then it is quit important to understand the geography and the different options. A trip to the Shetland Islands, for example, couldn’t be more different to a trip to London.
What is the UK?
The proper name of the UK is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. So to cruise The UK and British Isles means you can visit the UK including England, Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland. But, you could also visit the further Islands in the British Isles (see below).
The Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK, but is a country unto itself and is part of Europe.
Often a cruise of the United Kingdom will include other countries such as The Republic of Ireland, Iceland or Norway. Some UK Cruises will go down the coast and end in The Mediterranean Sea.
What are The British Isles?
The British Isles include the UK as well as Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Inner and Outer Hebrides, the Northern Isles and over six thousand smaller islands.
So cruising The British Isles is very much more than you could ever experience with just a vacation to London, for example.
