Europe

What parts of Europe can I Cruise?

Except for a few truly land-locked countries in Europe, you can cruise all of the Rivers, Seas and Oceans in Europe to get to almost all countries within Europe.

The interesting thing about Europe is how many of the famous cities are situated next to water. Historically this is because in the early days of European success much of the trade was done by ship.

just within the UK, for example, there are 5 major ports, all of which were almost entirely responsible for the success of those cities. Felixstowe, Southampton, London and Liverpool are all world famous today. Felixstowe is world renowned for cargo shipments. Southampton is the UK’s cruise ship hub with annual traffic of 500 to 650 cruise vessels with 2 million passengers.

To the other extreme, the Danube river cuts through central Europe almost its entire width. The Danube has port access to

  • Austria
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • Germany
  • Hungary
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia

We aren’t aware of a product that would allow you see all of Europe from the same ship, but that is because a River Cruise Ship is very different to an Ocean-Going Cruise Ship. The ships are built in a completely different way.

However, you could back to back two cruises and combine Two or more of the Rivers, Seas and Oceans in Europe.

Think of Bergen to Barcelona, covering most of Western Europe, followed by Barcelona to Venice, covering a large part of Mediterranean South/Central Europe.

Or you could take a small hop and join a Mediterranean Sea Cruise ending in Greece with a River Cruise from the Bucharest to Germany all the way along the Danube River, cutting through Central Europe and visiting about 25 different countries.

  • Oceans – The Atlantic
  • Seas – the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and Sea of Azov, Caspian Sea, White Sea, Barents Sea, Norwegian Sea, Baltic Sea, North Sea and North Atlantic Ocean
  • Rivers – There are about 150 rivers in Europe, but the most notable would be: Danube River, Dnieper River, Don River, Elbe River, Loire River, Oder River, Po River, Rhine River, Rhône River, River Shannon, Tagus River, Volga River, Danube River and River Seine
